To promote innovation-driven development, consolidate "from big to strong" basis of Chinese mold industry

                                                                                                                                    —New Year Messagefrom 2017

In year 2016, challenge and opportunity coexisted in the equipment manufacturing industry. As a high-end equipment manufacturing sector, Chinese mold industry faced pressure and innovation. In accordance with the general principles of economic development of the central government, which include capacity reduction, de-stocking, deleveraging, cost reduction and improving underdeveloped areas, Chinese mold industry actively tracked the implementation process of "Made in China 2025" strategy, and focused on the promotion of transformation and upgrading of the industry. Under the premise of maintaining moderate economic growth,Chinese mold industry consolidated foundation works that followed the leading idea of "from big to strong" and made substantive progress, showed the new trend of the healthy development of the industry. In the Chinese Lunar New Year of Rooster, CDMIA sincerely thanks the concern and support of all levels of government officials, and expresses our warm congratulations and festive greetings to all members and mold sector colleagues who achieved excellent performance in forging ahead and Innovating! At the beginning of "the 13th Five-Year", the mold sector not only guarantees the effective mold and tool supply for the transformation and upgrading of Chinese manufacturing industry, meanwhile, the whole sector significantly enhanced "soft powers", such as innovation ability, Quality and efficiency level, degree of internationalization and sector organization vitality.

Economic development keeps "Steady progress".
Guarantee effective supply of the mold market.
In 2016, the sales revenue of the mold sector maintained a growth rate between 4% and 5%, estimated reaching 178 billion yuan. It basically met the mold demand of main mold users who claimed their own production growth rate, for example, car manufacturer 10%, plastic products 3%. Affected by the continued weak recovery of the world economy, the lump sum of import and export of mold industry suffered a second negative growth year since 2008. Estimated throughout the year, mold imports fell by about 10%, mold exports fell by about 5%. But in absolute quantity, it still lived in the forefront of world die and mold international trade (including exports). From the scale of economies, Chinese mold industry still maintain the status of main strength of world manufacturing and world trade.
Actively promote innovation-driven development.
Enhancing mold industry "soft power" obtains primary results.
In 2016, the central government published intensive policy support and policy guidance, in order to carry forward the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry. These supportive industrial policies, such as technology development, Informatization construction, brand build, credit system construction, public service platform construction, "Internet +", Intelligent manufacturing, etc., omnibearing push forward the implementation of " National innovation - driven development strategy" and "Made in China 2025" national plans. Chinese mold industry kept track of government policy guidance, combined with the actual development status of the mold industry and mold enterprises, actively carried out work, and has made exciting good results:
-          Participated bidding works, for example, "Strengthen infrastructure projects" of Ministry of Industry and Information, research and development projects of Ministry of Science and Technology, and won 2 of them.
-          Authorized by Ministry of Commerce and SASAC, CDMIA carried out "Enterprise credit rating". 31 enterprises received a credit rating of AAA in the first batch, and have been put on record in the Ministry of Commerce credit office. This indicates the beginning of credit system construction of the mold industry.
-          Ministry of Industry and Information launched the assessment work for "Manufacturing individual champion". Recommended by CDMIA, reviewed and publicized by Ministry of Industry and Information, Himile Group became the first Nationally recognized "Manufacturing individual champion exemplary Enterprise ".
-          CDMIA and CAXA cooperated and carried out "Excellence research and development innovative service platform project" and built the digital platform "JINGMOWANG" www.jingmowang.com. In 2016, "JINGMOWANG" won the bid of "Industrial cloud application exemplary for the Equipment manufacturing industry", which was one of the projects promoted by Ministry of Industry and Information for "support and guarantee capacity for the action of Industrial transformation and upgrading to intelligent manufacturing and ‘Internet +’ - Industrial cloud application exemplary".
-          Knowledge-based services for mold manufacturing developed rapidly. New forms of industry, such as "Design company", "Cloud manufacturing company", "Network service platform", etc., were put into operation, which further optimized the mold industrial structure. The embryonic form of "Internet + Mold manufacturing" is taking shape.
-          Chinese mold industry values the creation, declaration and protection of independent intellectual property rights, for example, patents, scientific and technological achievements. In 2016, more than 10,000 patents were authorized; more than 10 items of scientific and technological achievements won provincial and ministerial level prize. Backbone enterprises in mold industry grew up and strengthened. In 2016, more than 178 "Chinese key backbone mold enterprises" were assessed and awarded by CDMIA; with less than 1% the proportion of all the number of mold enterprises, their sales accounted for nearly 20% of the industry. Industrial concentration increase by 35% compared to that of 2010, the end of "the 11th Five-Year".
-          Six more mold companies successfully listed (one in Motherboard, five in New Three Board). Till 2016, the quantity of mold-based listed companies reached 36 (Not including the New Three Board). The capital operation level of the entire industry reached a new height.
-          CDMIA led and formulate the National standard "Dies and moulds—Terminology" and complete a draft for approval. The formulation of "CDMIA Group standards" was put on agenda. Mold industry standardization work stepped into a new stage.

The new development trend presenting in Chinese mold industry, further confirmed that the period of vigorous rapid expansion of production capacity is ending, and the transition period "from big to strong" using innovation-driven as development power, is arriving gradually and silently.
Gather industry wisdom, draw up and release "the 13th Five-Year" plan.
Based on the changes in domestic and international manufacturing situations, following the principles of leading and guiding investment and development of the industry, CDMIA drew up and released the "Mold industry development guidelines in ‘the 13th five-year'" (referred to as the "Guidelines"), which was market-oriented and problem-oriented. The "Guidelines" first analyzed the domestic and international mold market trends during 'the 13th five-year' period. According to the development trend of Chinese product manufacturing industry, especially that of manufacturing industry relating to people's livelihood, the total capacity of mold market is expected to expand around 15% compared to that at the end of 'the 12th five-year', in which the proportion of high-grade mold will have a more substantial increase. After more than 10 years of rapid growth, Chinese mold exports has accumulated a wealth of experience and has established a good reputation; the gradual recovery of the world economy provides a broader market space for Chinese mold exports. The "Guidelines" also analyzed the main problems that has existed during the development of Chinese mold industry. Chinese modern mold industry has a short development history, as a result, the industrial base is not strong enough (more than 80% of design software and key processing equipment were abroad imported). The energy of motion of the industry development could not convert rapidly, the innovation ability is low. The modern manufacturing service industry and the public service platform were not constructed to meet high-level development. The main users of mold industry exist an uneven distribution of production capacity. All these problems reflect the current status of Chinese mold industry, that is "big but not strong"; it also alerts us that to realize the strength country purpose raised by "Made in China 2025", we has a long way to go.
Based on the analysis of the prospect of the mold market and existing problems, according to the actual transformation and upgrading situation of Chinese mold industry, the "Guidelines" put forward the development strategy, key tasks and policy suggestions in "the 13th Five-Year" period. It especially emphasized the significance of collaborative innovation, resource sharing and production cooperation in the transformation of energy of motion and "from big to strong" for Chinese mold industry. Collaborative innovation will push forward the innovative development in manufacturing industry, especially in intelligent manufacturing industry, through ways, such as, "Politics, production, learning, research, use", "Industry chain upstream and downstream alliance", "Industrial technology alliance", etc. Resource sharing aims the current status of dispersion and shortage of superior resources in Chinese mold industry, uses internet technology, establishes public service platforms, and develops modern manufacturing services, finally achieves the integration of superior resources and then industry sharing. Production cooperation will solve the problem of uneven distribution of mold production capacity in the main users of mold industry, especially in the emerging mold market, mainly through the construction of online and offline network procurement platform, product structure adjustment of mold enterprise and industrial upgrading. The preparation process of the "Guidelines" concentrated wisdom and effort of industry experts, leaders and comrades. I'd like to express my sincere thanks to them.

General election of the CDMIA board was completed smoothly.
On December 6, 2016, CDMIA held the 8th Membership Representative Conference in Ningbo, elected the 8th Board of Directors and the new leadership team, appointed Honorary President, Deputy Secretary-General and Advisory Committee, smoothly completed the election. It injected new vitality to the continuous development of CDMIA. In this regard, representing the eighth Board of Directors and the Association of the person in charge, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the trust and support of all members!
In the coming new year, we'll respect the expectations of our members, study hard, improve our service level, work hard, do well the "decoupling" reform and the construction of the association, carry forward the fine tradition of Chinese model cohesion, innovate service activities, play well the role as a bridge link in the mold industry, promote the healthy development of the industry.
Looking into year 2017, Chinese economic development will continue to maintain a middle-to-high-level speed; the "Made in China 2025" strategy will be carried out more intensively; high-end equipment manufacturing industry will meet new opportunities. All these will provide a better environment and stage for the innovation-driven development of Chinese mold industry. Let's welcome the successful holding of the Party's Nineteenth Congress with our solid work results!
In the Chinese Lunar New Year of 2017, I wish you good fortune in your career, happiness in your family and good lucks in the Rooster New Year!
